Core Values

Teaching with Excellence

The people we send to teach English have the privilege of standing in front of a classroom full of students eager to learn English and more about their foreign teachers. There are opportunities to share hope and love as friendships are built with students and their families. Since 1981, over 1.5 million students have been influenced by more than 13,000 ELIC teachers around the world. Throughout three decades of proven impact, ELIC has been blessed with an increased level of credibility and influence. This drives us to broaden our vision for how our teachers will reach a new generation of future leaders in the world’s most pivotal nations.

Training You Well

The Engage program begins with a week of training and orientation. If you are nervous about teaching and serving in another country, don’t worry! This is when we will train you. At Orientation, you will learn everything from safety and security, to how to work together as a team. You will also learn the teaching curriculum and how to most effectively teach English and build relationships with the people you will be working with. Every summer we send engineers, business majors, doctors, and artists. You don't have to be a teacher by trade to teach English—you already have what it takes!

Serving as a Team

Engage places a high emphasis on teams. You are sent in teams because of the countless benefits of serving internationally while rooted in the context of community. You’ll learn to sharpen and encourage each other while pouring out your time and energy into your students and relationships. Each team is made up of roughly 6–10 teachers and includes a team leader. Team leaders usually have previous experience serving with ELIC and play the role of a mentor and guide throughout the summer.
